★★★★☆
Minnie Cooper (yes, like the car) knows two things with great certainty: her New Year's birthday has always been unlucky, and that it's all because of Quinn Hamilton. Has she ever met him? No. Will she blame him for everything that goes wrong in her life? Yes. Minnie and Quinn were born at the same hospital just minutes apart on New Year's Day thirty years ago. When they unexpectedly run into each other on their thirtieth birthday, things start to change. Even though they're from completely different worlds, their similar stories bring them closer. Will this year be the luckiest yet?
This book completely surprised me. I thought it would be a typical cheesy romance, but I didn't expect to fall in love with the characters as much as I did. Minnie is incredibly loveable and truly comes alive in each chapter. With a relatable relationship with her parents, it's hard not to adore her and cheer her on after each unfortunate incident. Quinn's fear of commitment I found initially off-putting, but as his story progresses and we begin to understand his life isn't as easy as it seems, the pieces start fitting together to show us how perfect he and Minnie are for each other.
Not only are Minnie and Quinn a charming couple, the main theme I took from this book was strong friendships. Minnie's friends are an odd group you typically wouldn't put together, but Cousens did a fantastic job of bringing the best qualities out in each of them while still being truthful to their different personalities. There wasn't one character that I didn't like, and that includes Minnie's ex-boyfriend.
The flashbacks that take place throughout the book are almost frustrating simply because they show us exactly how many times Minnie and Quinn have crossed paths. And unless I'm mistaken, they once shared a New Years kiss back in their teens, bringing their relationship to a full circle; I found it incredibly sweet.
Full of wit, charm and an engrossing plot, This Time Next Year isn't one to miss.
This Time Next Year is available to pre-order now before its October 15 release!
