It's fair to say that podcasts are becoming increasingly popular these days but it's also fair to say that no one has a lineup like David Tennant. With the guests including Olivia Colman, Whoopi Goldberg and Sir Ian Mckellen, it leaves no doubt these chats will consist of answers we've always wanted to know and some we didn't even know we needed.
Olivia Colman is the perfect first guest; she's down to earth, isn't afraid to swear and also brought along her dog - yes, that's important. Within the first couple of minutes it is clear how much of a good friendship Tennant and Colman have, and it's as though you are sat with them having a good old chinwag with a nice cup of tea. The two talk about some brilliant stories of Colman's work, such as Broadchurch, The Favourite (of which earned her a much deserved Academy Award nomination) and the upcoming third series of The Crown.
One topic of conversation brought up is the loss of anonymity for Colman after Broadchurch exploded onto our screens, joking how her method of dealing with this is to not go out. Discussing her experience of being in the public eye, she says, "Everyone's got a f*cking camera and people are desensitised to fellow humans ... It's horrible. It's [like] bullying. Every moment of every day that you're out, it's people nudging and pointing in your direction and talking about you."
The strong relationship Tennant and Colman share makes for a great listen but it does come with its cons for fans who are eager to learn just that little bit more about the guest. Difficult topics are steered away from and compliments for one another are thrown about in place of them - but what else would you expect from two actors talking about their lack of privacy in today's age of camera phones and Twitter?
Whether you're looking for a podcast to listen to on your journey to work or to relax at home with, Tennant's conversation with Colman is the one. It's full of behind the scenes stories and insights into how she got where she is today, including a surprising background as a rally driver.
